HEALING WITH INTENTION

Intention

Setting an Intention is the first phase of our work together.  Intention integrates mind, body, and spirit.  Through heartful, compassionate listening and curiosity, we will begin your process to establish an intention that will anchor our work together and guide your journey.

Connection

Connection to our own hearts and truth is vital to our connection with others.  In our time together, we will discover with curiosity and compassion any survival strategies that aren’t serving you anymore and find new ways to nurture your relationship with yourself.

Healing

Healing takes place when you connect to yourself in a compassionate way.  I will hold space for you and provide a container of safety for your healing journey. There is often a connection between what is happening in your life today and something in your past that needs reprocessing. During our time together, we can look at the links with curiosity and will utilize proven tools and modalities for healing.

Expansion

Expansion is the natural outcome of the healing process. When you release the survival strategies and weight of the past, your heart is open and free to experience the joy and lightness of this psychobiological shift.

EMDR

Through EMDR therapy, patients are able to reprocess traumatic information until it is no longer psychologically disruptive. EMDR is a physiologically–based therapy that appears to be similar to what occurs naturally in REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep and seems to have a direct effect on the way our brain processes and stores information.

Mindfullness

Mindfulness can also describe a type of meditation practice that cultivates this awareness, a quality all human beings possess.

According to Mindful.org, “mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.”

About me

My healing journey started at the age of 15 years when I lost my father, he was 38.  This tragedy stunted my emotional growth, sent me into a depression, and created unhealthy coping skills. As I got older and through a variety of life transitions, therapy exposed me to a variety of modalities I now use today in my practice.

Attempting to navigate my grief, I attended multiple therapy sessions firstly due to the loss of my father and later due to multiple miscarriages. During this journey, I learned to heal past wounds and let go of survival stargates that were not serving me anymore. Most importantly, how to connect to my heart and be there for myself.  My therapy journey from heartache to healing inspired me to gain further understanding and pushed me to achieve a second master’s degree in family therapy. I also obtained training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Masters level Neuro Affective Relational Model (NARM).

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a MS Family Therapy from Friends University, a MS School Counseling K-12, and a BS in Elementary Education from Emporia State University. I am a certified EMDR therapist.  I have worked with individuals and families for the past 25 years.

Testimonials

As I was driving home from a kid drop off, I could feel the mom worry build… I tried to turn it off- tried to brush it off - tried to believe “he’ll be fine”. But, the worry got the best of me and I made the call to Wendy. Wendy helped me figure out that the worry was less about my kid and more about me. What my kid wasn’t worried about, sad about, or anxious about was a worry for ME. I was projecting my past experiences on my kid.  This was an old wound that wasn’t healed in my childhood, one where I felt “left out” and I was reliving it in the present  through my child.  Wendy led me through naming this. She helped me revisit the past so I could talk through the pain that needed love. I was able to reconnect with my younger self and give her the love she needed as a child.  Now- I can better be there for my kids recognizing that mom worry was actually about me.
